Will AI Take Over?

 

As someone who has just switched their major from pharmacy to strategic communications, the increasing use of AI technology makes me very nervous. In the field of pharmacy, or just generally in the medical field, the use of AI will never completely take over. You need the human aspect of knowledge, touch, and sympathy in order to take care of patients. However, with something as data-driven as the broad field of communications, our jobs are at risk.

It was interesting to hear that the jobs that are becoming more and more automated are the ones that are overly represented by women, such as public relations, human resources, finance, the restaurant industry, etc. As a woman who is thinking about entering the field of PR/advertising, the question of whether or not there will be a job available for me still lingers in my mind. There is the argument that AI can help automate tedious tasks, reduce errors, and improve efficiency; however, you still need the human aspect of communicating with an audience when it comes to strategic communication. You cannot connect with an AI.

It is also important to consider the implications of AI on privacy and security. With the increasing use of AI, there is a risk of personal data being misused or stolen. It is crucial that companies take measures to protect their customers' data and ensure that AI is used ethically and responsibly. In terms of national security, AI can be used to improve surveillance and detect potential threats. However, it is important that this is done in a way that respects individuals' privacy.

While some jobs may become automated, this does not necessarily mean that people will be out of work. Instead, it is likely that new jobs will be created that require different skills and knowledge. It is important for people to adapt and learn new skills so that they can remain competitive in the job market.
