The Prestigious Supreme Court

The Supreme Court was more in-depth and calculated than I had initially thought. What I did not already know, was how vital the "oral argument" is with the case's selected attorney. The Supreme Court justices take that opportunity to bounce their ideas off of the attorney and make sure their points are heard and considered. They described the attorney as an intermediary, allowing the court to "have a conversation with itself." The oral argument, as the justices described it, will always make a difference in a court hearing. I also did not realize that the Supreme Court only accepts and decides on about a hundred petition cases, a year, with about seven thousand being dismissed.

The most important takeaway point about the Supreme Court is the justices' overall objective. Every justice on the court will have a differing opinion about a case. Some justices might be of the same decision, but there will be disagreements along the way. However, they all expressed their shared goal of upholding the Constitution. They all share a mutual respect with one another when it comes to interpreting the document. It is the fundamental objective that they will never disagree on.

When I had originally envisioned the Supreme Court, I thought it has a court that only heard very controversial cases, ones that would be noted specifically in the news. However, the court hears an average of a hundred cases per year, some that you may not have heard of or will never hear of. Only particularly complex and difficult cases will be televised on the news, such as the presidential impeachments. All cases are carefully thought out in the oral argument as well as the private discussion between all nine justices. The Supreme Court, now, in my eyes, is more prestigious than I had ever thought.
